A Nucleus (nuc) is an established colony of honey bees on frames consisting of brood of all stages and stores .This is ready to be placed into a full size beehive .

What is the difference between an ‘Overwintered’ or ‘Spring’ Nucleus.
An over wintered nucleus is an established colony that has survived the previous winter and is headed with last year’s queen.
Spring Nucleus are made in the Spring with the same years queen.

I have a Flow hive, what type of nucleus do i order
Most flow hives are langstroth but there are national as well contact us if you are unsure .

What is the latest in the year that I can collect a nucleus
Beginning of August, this also depends if there is enough time for them to build up the colony to survive the winter.

All our Queens are marked with the correct year colour
Do you treat your colonies for varroa
Yes, We use standard treatments each year.
Do I need to bring anything when collecting my nuc
No they will be sealed into the correx box but a strap or something to secure it in the vehicle so it doesn’t topple over will be useful.
